Cardwave founder and CEO Paul Norbury has been crowned Business Person of the Year at this year’s Wiltshire Business Awards.

In addition to the Business Person of the Year, Cardwave also won two other awards, including runner up in the Services to the Community, and third place in the Medium Enterprise category – a great achievement considering it is the first year that the company has been eligible to apply for the Medium Enterprise category.

Cardwave, based in Hopton Park Industrial Estate in Devizes, was founded by Paul Norbury in 2004, and works with customers of all sizes across the world providing specialist expertise to organisations who need to secure and distribute their data on removable and embedded media. The business provides value-add services, end-to-end project management, and consultancy solutions, and  has positioned itself as one of the market leaders. It also offers business solutions for data security, and recovery in the form of SafeToGo, a hardware encrypted USB, and most recently launched a data recovery service, Data Resus (www.dataresus.com).

Since inception, the company has achieved consistent growth and has been instrumental in the delivery of many high-profile projects across various sectors, most notably for automotive navigation.  Several blue-chip customers in automotive rely on Cardwave’s expertise in delivering high quality products, backed by excellent customer service.

Cardwave recently announced a strategic expansion into the US with the formation of a US company, Cardwave Inc, and the opening of an office in Dallas, Texas.  Cardwave Inc is part of the company’s continuing growth strategy and a response to the need to be closer to its customers in the US. The new office is based in Allen, north of Dallas, and will offer many of the services that the UK office is well-known for, including data replication and specialist customisation services.

Of winning the Business Person of the Year Award, Paul said: “There was an immense amount of talent in the room and it’s an absolute privilege to win.  It’s very humbling to be recognised in front of so many successful businesses. As an individual, you can have a vision and you can put the effort in, but it’s all about the team, with so many people contributing to the success”.

He added: “I want to say a huge thank you to my dedicated staff, who have all worked incredibly hard over the past year, and to my wife, who allows me to do the things I need to do to grow the company”.

Paul Norbury’s extensive knowledge has led him to be recognised as a highly-respected figure in the NAND flash market, with over 26 years of B2B sales, marketing, and project management experience, specialising in the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) sector.

Up until 2014, Mr Norbury was an elected board member and Vice President of the SD Association – an international organisation of more than 1,000 members of leading technology companies charged with setting memory card settings.

Vijay Tanna, partner in accounting and business services at RSM, handed the award to Mr Norbury.

He said: “Mr Norbury started in business some 10 years ago and has had his ups and downs along the way. His commitment to grow the business and to ensure its long term sustainability by having the right team around him, his entrepreneurial flair, and his commitment to the community were evident throughout his application.”

Mr Norbury was previously runner up for the Business Person of the Year in 2011 and 2013.
